Some signature requests record your approximate location as part of the signature evidence. When you open the document, your browser may ask for permission to access your location.
Depending on how the sender configured the signature request:
- If location is optional, you can continue even if you deny access — your approximate location is then estimated from your IP address.
- If location is mandatory, you must allow access to continue. The signature cannot be completed while permission is blocked.
If you previously denied the request, or your browser blocks location by default, follow the steps for your browser below, then reload the page and allow access when prompted.
- Click the icon to the left of the address bar (a tune/sliders or padlock icon).
- Select Site settings.
- Find Location and set it to Allow.
- Reload the page and allow access when prompted.
To check the global setting, go to ⋮ menu → Settings → Privacy and security → Site settings → Location, and make sure Sites can ask for your location is on.
- Open the Safari menu → Settings (older versions: Preferences).
- Go to the Websites tab → Location in the left list.
- Set this website to Allow.
- Make sure macOS location is on: System Settings → Privacy & Security → Location Services, with Safari allowed.
- Reload the page and allow access when prompted.
- Click the icon to the left of the address bar → Permissions for this site.
- Set Location to Allow.
- Reload the page and allow access when prompted.
To check the global setting, go to … menu → Settings → Cookies and site permissions → Location, and make sure Ask before accessing is on.
- Click the padlock icon in the address bar.
- If a blocked Location permission is shown, click the ✕ to clear it, or set it to Allow.
- Reload the page and choose Allow when prompted.
To check the global setting, go to ☰ menu → Settings → Privacy & Security → Permissions → Location → Settings, and remove this site from the blocked list.
- Click the icon to the left of the address bar → Site settings.
- Set Location to Allow.
- Reload the page and allow access when prompted.
To check the global setting, go to Settings → Advanced → Privacy & security → Site settings → Location.
- Make sure your operating system allows the browser to use location (Windows: Settings → Privacy & security → Location; macOS: System Settings → Privacy & Security → Location Services).
- Disable any VPN, ad blocker, or privacy extension that may block location, then reload the page.
- Try a different supported browser.
