Group Signing lets a group of signers approve an envelope, message, or transaction together. Instead of a single signer making the decision, the group decides based on a rule that says how many people must sign. There are two different available configuration for the group signing:

  • n out of n scenario
    • means all the recipients within a group needs to sign
  • n out of m scenario
    • means a configured number of recipients of the whole group needs to sign the envelope

What it means

Group signing (n out of n)

In an n-of-n group, every signer in the group must sign the envelope before the group signing is considered as finished.

When it is useful

  • When you want full agreement from everyone

  • Important actions that require total consensus

Group signing (n out of m)

In an n-of-m group, you only need n signatures out of the total m signers in the group.

When it is useful

  • When not everyone is always available

  • Committees or teams that make decisions by majority or quorum
